With these animations I intended to show how a fingerprint scanner at US port of entry could, with some minor upgrades, display messages created with the 'afterimage' of the traveler's fingerprint.

More background

Every port of entry in the United States requires international visitors to submit fingerprints to the Department of Homeland Security. This is a tedious and invasive procedure that also causes significant delays for the traveler. At the same time, the visitor gets a sense that just entering the country is enough to put you under suspicion. Moreover, surrendering your biometric data is rarely, if at all, reciprocated with a gesture of gratitude, neither from the TSA official or from any printed or electronic displays. I believe that designing the electronic devices properly can go a long way in mitigating some of the emotional annoyances caused by the fingerprint scanning system.
